Capture the cold water
Ever wonder how much water is wasted when you’re waiting for hot water to come through the pipes? Challenge yourself to find out, and figure out ways to use the cold water that comes out first. Place a pitcher near your sink to collect the runoff, and then use it for things like watering plants, filling your dog or cat’s water bowl, or rinsing vegetables before cooking.

I put a pitcher under the faucet to catch the cold water to use for watering house plants in the winter or the garden in the summer.
This is a great idea.
That’s a good conservation tip. I also dump the ice from my ice maker when it has been around to long and gets that funny taste outside to water plants and I put some in containers for the wildlife.
Everyone likes a good cup of tea!
What an awesome idea to use the water for plants. Never thought of that…thanks.
Wonderful idea! I will share it with teachers to let their students know that this is a good way to save water. Thanks.
I always seem to have plants to water. This works great.
It’s always nice to use the cold water for the kettle for a nice mug of tea!
Hmmm, with a dog, a few cats and a 55 gallon aquarium, there is not much chance for any wasted water here. There is also the options of filling the coffee pot, or my cook pot for steaming veggies later or boiling rice or pasta.
i already do this sense here in calinfornia we are consering water this is on the lsit i got
Here in Wisconsin, winter is Cold! The wild critters outside have to have water too!
Have a big bowl that you can pour that extra water into. The wild kitties in the cities are hit particularly hard for water in the winter. Yes, it freezes but while it’s liquid, they can drink it. Maybe think of getting one of those bird bath heaters to keep it liquid. You’d be surprised at how many critters will visit your winter oasis!
