Push meat to the side

Submitted by ameliabedelia19
Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

Many people consider meat to be the main dish of a meal. So why not turn tradition on its head? Challenge yourself to pick a day for letting meat take the place of a side dish, proportionally speaking. Or, better yet, use an even smaller portion of meat— almost as a garnish. Your heart will thank you for consuming fewer animal fats, and you’ll shrink your carbon footprint, too.

My husband and I have been vegetarians for almost four years now. I always encourage people to try not to eat meat for a week, and then two weeks and then a month. You will be surprised to find that it is easy to not eat meat and it exposes you to all the other wonderful foods out there!

The other night I made tacos for my parents and sister. They had cooked sweet potato cubes, black beans and a little bit of chicken! I would love to completely forgo meat a few times a week (I only eat chicken and shrimp anyhow) but as I am still in high school, my parents want me to make stuff that has meat in it. In college, I will be a vegetarian, though!

I love meat! But I am growing tired of the same old things…chicken, beef, fish, etc…I am kickstarting my new lifestyle on the Blood Type diet. It’s not a diet for me but I will gradually put the good things back into my diet where they need to be and cut back on my portions of meat. It’s hard and expensive… because I love hamburgers…. and eating healthy costs more, but I am up for the challenge!

I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 2 years. The only challenge I find is coming up with interesting and healthful dinner options at home. I need to find some really good cookbooks. I don’t eat tofu, or tempeh, so that’s a challenge sometimes. But, I feel really good, don’t miss the meat and love the health and environmental benefits!

I DON’T EAT SOLID FOOD VERY OFTEN. MY DIET CONTAINS ENSURE, BOOST, AND SLIMFAST WEIGHT LOST SHAKES. MY DOC SAID HE DOESN’T CARE THE WAY I EAT JUST THAT I EAT SOMETHING WITH VITAMINS AND THAT WILL FILL ME UP. OF COURSE, MY STOMACH HAS SHRUNK AND A MEAL IN A CAN IS PLENTY TO GAIN OR MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT. I DO EAT FRUIT THOUGH FOR THE FIBER AND VITAMINS THE FRUIT CONTAINS.

i’ve been vegetarian for 4 years, and eat vegan 5-6 days out of the week. One of the best decisions i’ve ever made health-wise and morality-wise. Kashi makes it so much easier too with their frozen meals, i love them!

I look for varied sources of proteins and I’ve found there’s little reason to eat much, if any, meat. I’m functionally vegetarian most of the time.

I replace alot of the meat with beans. When making spaghetti I will use a 1/4 pound of turkey and 1 cup of whole beans and 1 cup of beans that I puree. This is plenty for a family of 4

I have been vegetarian for a few years, and I feel so much better. I also have tried to reduce my dairy intake, although I too love cheese. But the more vegan and vegetarian options, the better!

I have omitted meat from my diet 20 yrs ago and I feel wonderful. Kashi was a great find for me. Their products are very tasty.

I love Kashi pizzas. However, I don’t love soy cheese. I’ve switched to soy milk and eat a lot of soy products, but, leave my cheese alone! LOL I’ve tried different brands and flavors, but it’s just not good. I’ll stick with my cheese from cows, goats and sheep. There is no way a little bean can make cheese like those four-footed furries can. AND, they’re much prettier to look at, too!!

I’ve been vegetarian for over a year, and I’ve been eating vegan for about two weeks, it’s not as hard as I thought it would be, plus I love knowing I’m helping Animals. It’d be awesome if Kashi came out with a vegan pizza that uses soy cheese, I’m tried of seeing so many companies taking the simple, and pretty untasty, way out and just not adding cheese. IN FACT, why not make all kashi pizzas with soy cheese, they’d sell a lot more and be a lot healthier.

I agree that meat is not always the best to eat. I try to eat less meat whenever I can order something else or cook without meat i enjoy my meal better. I try and eat more vegetables and fish as much as I can.

I really think you need to try Kashi’s Sicilian Veggie pizza before you pass judgement on non-cheese pizzas. It has such a delicious sauce and blend of veggies that you won’t miss the cheese. I personally don’t like cheese, but I know that others choose to skip the cheese to taste the sauce and toppings. It’s way healthier than even soy cheese. I don’t think all Kashi’s pizzas should be cheeseless but I love that they have that option.
