Get your salt from the sea

If you’ve always been a salt of the earth type, why not try salt of the sea instead? Sea salt is the byproduct of evaporation of seawater. Table salt is derived from minerals found in the earth. Both offer the same nutritional value, but sea salts can vary widely in taste and texture. Colors range from pink and gray to black and red. Challenge yourself to expand your horizons by pushing your regular salt aside in favor of a small sprinkling of sea salt instead.

I have read the benefits of using sea salt. I also have been trying to use
organic spices when I can find them.

For those that asked – I’m by no means an expert, but I’m guessing we get enough iodine in our diets from all the added salt that is in most processed foods. Also, I still use plain old earth salt for baking.

I have used sea salt for almost 2 years now…I used to add too much salt to my foods before, and I too find that you can use WAY less sea salt and it still tastes good if not better!

(and by not going back…I mean I’m not going back to normal earth salt) :)

I didn’t know there were different colors and flavors of sea salt. How fun! I’m not going back

All depends on what minerals and other salts and whatever else remains behind after evaporation is common to the area the sea salt is taken from.

I have been using sea salt for a while now and I love the way it brings out the favor in my food. I got my family to switch about three months ago to sea salt.

Sea salt is my regular salt, it has been for years. I feel bad for the blue box bunch, may they all be converts soon!

Started using Celtic Sea Salt. The flavor is better than regular table salt, and you seem to need less of it. I was also wondering about missing the iodine found in salt….anyone know where else we can get it in our diet?

I have been using sea salt to season with for a while now. I find myself able to use
less and achieve the same taste. I feel I am cooking healthier and in a family were HPB is a given, every little bit helps.

I have been using REAL SALT for 5 years and love it I think that it has a slightly sweet taste and it says that it has 50 trace minerals

Mined salt is just as “real” as sea salt. The difference is mined salt is pretty much straight NaCl, whereas sea salt is NaCl and whatever else remains after evaporation.

Love sea salt just wondering about the iodine added to iodized salt. I’ve always heard it helped thyroid problems and was the only source of iodine in most Western diets.

I have been using sea salt for years. It has a much better flavor than palin old salt so you use less. Plus there are so many varieties that you can use with different cuisines! very versatile! I have a salt grinder for mine!

I love sea salt, I use a lot less salt than with salt from the earth. I am looking forward to finding the different salts.

I had no idea there were different tastes and flavors of salt until recently. I am now a big fan of Celtic Sea Salt and Hawaiian Red Sea Salt.
