Be conventional when necessary

When it comes to pesticide loads in conventionally grown produce, not all fruits and veggies are equal. Paying a premium for organic produce makes sense for many, but if you can’t—or can’t every time—try compromising on the produce with the lowest pesticide loads when grown conventionally. Today, challenge yourself to spend the lion’s share of your budget on the most important fruits and veggies (in terms of chemical absorption), and go conventional for the following as needed: Onions Avocados Sweet corn (frozen) Pineapples Mangoes Sweet peas (frozen) Asparagus Kiwi Bananas Cabbage Broccoli Eggplant

I try to buy local and organic for most fruits and vegetables. But as you suggest, some fruits and veggies such as bananas and others on this list, I buy conventional.

if possible, buying from a farmers market it also a great alternative. the produce is usually treated better, even if it isn’t 100% organic. and you even support your local farmers and economy in the process!

I always assumed broccoli an important produce item to purchase organically-grown. Glad to hear differently. Now if only we could get resturaunts to use organic lettuce in their salads!
