Think inside the box

Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

We like to call it box envy. You know it: The feeling you get when you see your neighbor or coworker’s lovely box of organic produce being delivered to their doorstep or cubicle. Our message? It can be you reaping the benefits of locally grown, seasonal delights without a trip to the market! Today, challenge yourself to finally put your what-if-I-don’t-use-it-all fears aside and sign up for a box service. Many local farms offer produce delivery, but you can also take advantage of national CSAs that deliver packaged items as well.

I don’t belong to a CSA b/c we didn’t sign up in time, but we do go to the local farmer’s market and buy produce from the same farm that we would have belonged to in the CSA. Local produce is wonderful and there is such a variety.

Is it worth the cost? There are only two of us in this household and I’m unsure that it will fit into our little food budget…

This is semi-unrelated to the Headline article but I could not resist the irony.
Bought another big box of Oatmeal Dark Chocolate CHEWY cookies. I swore after the first one that I would not buy this again. There is too much packaging. The cookies are in a plastic tray marked 6. The trays are wrapped in a four color printed foil bag. Inside the bag is a Fresh Pax chemical drying agent. The bagged trays are in a paperboard box with 100% Recycled Paperboard, but three of these boxes are inside a NEW cardboard box, strong enough to ship china in. The cookies themselves are not the least bit brittle. Is the Naturally Yummy sticker on the outer box really necessary? Are these Soy-based inks? For Pete’s sake, wrap the 3 boxes together with a piece of tape! They are cookies, not condoms.
My apologies for being out of context. I just had to speak my mind on this one.

I missed the CSA share by one person! So, this year, I went an alternate route and found a great company that works with local farms and bakeries and delivers all local products right to your door. It has been a great, great experience and I order almost every week. Its like going to all the farmer’s markets around my state without ever leaving home. If you live in CT, check them out: www.ctfarmfreshstore.com (online store only open Sat – Tues).
