Find your fat limit

Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

Do you know how much fat you should be consuming daily? Funny, neither did we. The USDA estimates that you should take in 20 to 35% of your total calories from fat, so it’s a different number for everyone, depending on your total calorie needs. More important is what fats you eat: Saturated and trans fats are fats to minimize or avoid all together, while un-saturated fats like those in olive oil, nuts, and fish are key. Today, challenge yourself to visit the US Dietary Guidelines site and calculating your own fat target using their MyPyramid tool.

I went to the food pyramid website, but it never came back and told me how much fat to have per day. Any suggestions???

Following the Weight Watchers® plan for a long time has educated me on the my daily diet requirements of the different food groups, as well as the role fat, fiber and calories play in maintaining a healthy balance. They also talk a great deal about “good fats” from olive oil, flax, nuts and canola oil. I consume Kashi brand foods for their nutritional value. The Kashi foods all have whole grains, high fiber, low fat and moderate calorie content, good oils (or nuts) plus, I really enjoy the taste! They are part of my daily diet, and have me reach my Lifetime WW goal. As a positive bonus, my total cholesterol has dropped to a healthy 140, and my doctor is very impressed.

I have diabetes 2 so I have to write down all I eat and Put how much cal, fat, carbs, protein for each food I eat. I then show it to may doctor and she either says good or shakes her finger at me. I also have to loose weight to get it under control. It is a pain

I’m not even eating the daily recommended servings and I thought I was! My caloric intake is less than the recommended, but my fats are off the CHARTS. It’s no wonder I’m overweight!

Time to hit the gym. So seriously.

Im a runner so I need to eat a good amount of fat to keep my body going. All of the fat I eat everyday comes from either nuts like walnuts, and almonds or from extra virgin olive oil. Flaxseed and hemp are good sources of fat also. Sunflower seeds also have a bunch of good fat in them.

I have been very successful in this area. I have high cholesterol and my niece the nurse practitioner keeps a close watch on my fat intake. She always wants to know what foods I eat and how I prepare them. I have learned that I can actually survive without fried foods every meal, and don’t have to always eat beef. Actually baking, broiling, or grilling has more flavor than frying, or at least it does to me. And I use canola oil or virgin olive oil when I do fry. Even my husband like it! And I was raised on fried foods. My parents were old style and that was the only way they knew how to cook. But I have overcome!

My wife makes our cake from a mix adding only water, no eggs or oil. The cake is very moist and tasty. It is much better than directions on the box.

My daughter is in college and taking nursing classes – she has a health class and we both were shocked to learn that a typical bagel is enough/made for 2 people !! I only spread butter or cream cheese on one side…eat it whole.. does that still count for one?? LoL

I’ve been trying to cut back on saturated and trans fats but I am a definite cookie lover and their is almost always junk food in my house so I have been practicing my will power. Some days it turns out a lot better then others.

I was on a diet and eating next to no fat… everything was fat free, and I realized it was full of chemicals! I started eating the real things in moderation and haven’t gained a pound, and feel much better and less run-down….

i have already began cutting back on saturated and trans fat because my husband is a diabetic and i have to watch what he eats. so rather than do two different meals, i eat what he eats which is chicken & fish, and i use virgin olive oil or canola oil if i need to use oil at all. i bake and broil alot.

I have cut back on eating fatty foods. I am aware that I need to get moving more to balance my sit down desk job. And the first step will be to cut out candy
