Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

“Reduce, reuse, recycle” extends to all aspects of life…including entertaining. Today, challenge yourself to be a little thrifty by inviting friends over for a centerpiece brainstorm session. Have your guests bring at least one item to share as a table centerpiece that’s either pre-used, convertible, or edible. Here are a couple ideas to get you started: • Candles (can be half-used) • Kids’ school art projects (think: clay ashtray = dish for floating candles or flowers) • Edible sculptures made of fruits and veggies

I have a living centerpiece on my table. I planted paperwhites in a reused container. No matter how cold it gets outside there is that little bit of spring waiting for me. The best part is I get to plant them in my yard to enjoy year after year.

Thankfully, I reuse, reduce, and recycle everyday. We do this at work as well as at home, and it makes for a much better environment. For a different vase, try using a hollowed out gourd. You can paint them, or carve into them so it makes a great family project. Another idea to use your old lightbulbs, make snowmen! Use the biggest portion of the lightbulb as the body and use an old baby sock to cover up the silver part to make a hat and a scarf…You can draw on a face or use other things as eyes, a nose, and a mouth….It is really simple and fun to do.

For centerpieces you can benefit your community by buying flowers at your own farmers market in your city. I have often done this and it is not only beautiful.. but you get to see which flowers grow naturally in your area.
