Bust your bottle habit
Water bottles, vitamin waters, bottled teas – all sound good and healthful, but all foster waste.
Today, challenge yourself to go cold turkey on single-use bottles, period. Some ideas for making the change:
• Invest in a filtration system at home and use tap water.
• Purchase a few reusable bottles in safe materials like stainless or lined metals.
• Make your own “fancy” water by adding cucumber, lemon or orange wedges, or herbal infusions.
• Before you go to bed, prepare your water for the next day and place it where you won’t forget it.

I love my SIGG bottles. I take one everywhere. Plus we have a free filtered water machine at work, so I am saving money too.
Okay, I get it with the bottle thing but there was a study done by some researcher that said reusing the plastic bottles was a health hazard. Solution: Buy on of those water bottles like the ones that came on bicycles a few years ago. They have them at the dollar stores here in NC and they last FOREVER!
Use a brita filter at home and a stainless steel bottle at work/hiking. I think twice now about buying bottled drinks.
I just bought this really great Nalgene bottle … So, this challenge will be so easy for me :)
xx
This is an easy challenge for me. I’ve been reusing the same water bottle for over 5 months now. I wash it in the dishwasher to disinfect it, I bought one for my husband for work with his lunch, & my 10 year old son brings a smaller reusable bottle to school for snack time full of water. An easy challenge that we can all do successfully!!
Ok, so i admit that i bought a one time use plastic bottle but i’ve been re-usung it all week. It seems like everyone recommends a stainless steel bottle … that will be my next purchase. I think this is a good challenge =)
The Klean Kanteen – stainless steel bottle is the best. It is available in different sizes and with different caps. I use the sports cap when I am at the gym. Otherwise, I just use the regular screw on cap. Saves on those nasty plastic bottles!!! Can purchase direct or through distributors!! Try them!!!
I have been using reusable stainless bottles and tap water for some time now. I also ask for water with lemon when at a restaurant. It is very refreshing. Today I am going to add tangerine to my water.
I carry my insulated water bottle everywhere….I am lucky that my employer provides a filtered water and ice station and encourages us to stay hydrated all day!! A bigger challenge for me would be to get in all the water I need in a day….I just don’t drink enough of the stuff!!
I’ve been reusing plastic bottles and refilling them with gallons that I refill. Because of the recent articles that I’ve been reading about the plastic bottles harboring germs, even after cleaning, I guess I’ll look into a metal bottle. Can’t win.
Our family (me, husband & 3 kids) each have our own reusable water bottle that we use wherever we go. I am so anti-bottled water, it surprises me!
My husband and I buy the 1 liter bottles of water every six months. We have 6 around the house and fill them everyday so we do not buy the little bottles of water. Instead of a tap water purifier we reuse the 5 gallon jugs from Primo.
This is too easy – If we have to buy bottled water we reuse the bottle 3-5 times washing in between. But we try to never buy bottle water & instead have filtered water in a container in the frig & use washable cups & bottles.
I have a stainless steel mug and a refillable 22 ounce clear bottle.I constantly reuse everyday. The stainless steel reamins at my workstation. The bottle travels with me throughout the day. It’s been years since I have purchased bottled water.
We own a “SodaClub” machine and can make fizzy sparkling water at home! The one giant CO cartridge is still going strong and we got it in May. I have a Sigg bottle that I faithfully carry for work and bikram class. Having a water filters in kitchen helped us drink more tap water at home.
I had already planned on buying my kids Siggs for Christmas. They make great gifts for teachers too – just fill them up with something yummy and put a bow on it.
I keep my own bottle at my desk at work that I refill at the water cooler each time. Also, send re-useable bottles to school with my kids.
I recently bought Sigg water bottles for my teenage sons. They”re “cool” looking, the boys don’t mind carrying them, and I cut my dependence on bottled water by more than half.
I can do this each day. I have plenty of Extra bottles and will not forget to take Extra’s along.
I will not waste!!!
I have 2 bottles that I rotate and refill all day long. I can’t say that I’ve never purchased bottled water, but I prefer to use my own bottle and refil.
