Get to know arame
Arame may be the most nutritious sea vegetable you’ve never heard of. Harvested in an environmentally protected area off the coast of Japan, arame is available dried and can be purchased in most large grocery stores (in the Asian foods isle). It has a mild flavor, which makes it a great introduction to sea vegetables. Plus, it’s basically fat-free, low in calories and packed with vitamins, minerals and vital trace elements. This week, challenge yourself to go to the ocean for nutrition by adding arame to a soup or salad.

Does anyone have any recipes using arame or do you just add it to whatever you like?
Steph
I usually eat it right out of the bag.
I have never tried it .. i will and let all know .. thanks for this challenge
We used to use arame a lot, but for some reason I haven’t used it in awhile. I’m going to start again. We crumble it up and put it on/in everything. My kids eat it right out of the bag.
I have not tried it yet either, but plan on going to the store tomorrow.
I’ve never heard of it and don’t know where in the grocery store it might be…I’ll plan on looking for it this weekend.
I will look for it also. There is very little unusual stuff available around here. Sometimes I have to go all the way to Dallas to find things.
This sounds good, I want to try this in recipes I have.
I have never heard of this before, sounds good. I wonder what else I’ve been missing.
Anything to help me stay healthy – I will try Whole Foods
Sounds good, wonder if it has any fat or sugar.
Arame is a sea vegetable that looks like black spaghetti, sort of. It is about 4” long and skinny. It is wonderful in soup and salads. You just sprinkle it on. Spirulina, I believe, isa vegetable. They are just wonderful for your health, they are so packed with nutrition. You can find them in the asian section, macrobiotic section. In Dallas, Whole Foods and all the wonderful Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese markets. They have large sections of sea vegetables. Arame is the mildest. Some of the others are strong and chewy, so I put them in any soup, soak them, and take them out.
I am definitely going to try this. I hope I can find it in the store. (never heard of it before)
Where does one buy Arame, only speciality stores? I’ve never heard of it before? But sounds like’s it’s worth a try!
I can not wait to try this. It sounds good. Possibly even a good one to sneak in on something and see if my husband likes it. I will let you know.
i hadnt ever heard of it till today, sounds very interesting and good. i am going to get some and try it. i am a salad nut, anyway—-lol lol.
I tried it raw out of the bag, but it tasted bitter to me. I think I will like it in miso soup, however and will report back…..
