Rethink your kids’ lunches
Have you ever analyzed the nutritional value of what your kids eat every day? In the next 24 hours, reevaluate the contents of your kids’ lunch boxes and see if you can make some healthier substitutions like fruit, veggies and dip, or whole grain snacks.
My daughters preschool actually helped w/this challenge…it is required that all kids lunches be packed w/at least one fruit and one vegetable. No sugary sweets allowed, even the parties at school are changing the focus away from the cake and oookies and putting the focus on the reason for the celebration.
My son actually requested me to use hummus, lettuce, and whole grain bread after having the other half of one of my sandwiches one afternoon. He is 6 and does not like buying the school lunch and prefers the healthy lunches I pack for him. I have made a pasta salad with chicken, olives, broccoli and the three color pasta and used spray asian dressing. He loved it and it added variety. Kashi bars as “Dessert” also help spice up a dull lunch.
