Bulk up

Challenge Yourself for: 2 days

Buying products in bulk can save you time and unnecessary trips to the store. Natural food stores, chains, and cooperatives often stock such items as rice, beans, nuts, flour, soap, shampoo, and lotion in bulk. Best of all, you can often reuse many containers (usually at a discount). This weekend, when you go to the store challenge yourself to buy one product in bulk. If that’s not an option, select an item with packaging you can reuse.

I’m heading to the Whole Foods today…which is quite the jaunt from my house so I am hoping to stock up on the staples…rice, almonds, walnuts…hopefully some others as well.

I live in a small space so storage is hard for me when bulking up on items. Any storage suggestions for bulk merchandise?

“Bulk” doesn’t necessarily mean buying a bunch at once. Make a list of all of the things you are going to buy in bulk. Either go to a thrift store and find some second-hand containers (glass, plastic, whatever you fancy) or use left over jars (pasta sauce jars are always great) tailored to whatever’s going in them. Think about your shelf and counter space. Stacking is always an option. And bulk products look nice on the counter, if you don’t have enough cupboard space.
Buy just enough to last you ‘til your next shopping trip. That’s the great thing about bulk, you can get as much as you want and it costs just the same.
