Research green power options
Did you know that it may be possible for you to purchase electricity from clean wind, geothermal, solar, or hydroelectric sources? Today, challenge yourself to learn if your utility company lets you purchase green energy. The US Department of Energy’s Green Power Network lists energy options by state.
We have already signed up to support “green” power from the TVA. At $4 per month, we can definitely help support cleaner energy.
I allready use solar paneling on my Trailer i live in,and on my horse Barn.
I used the Green Power website to see if Wind energy was available in my area. It appears it is available some parts of Illinois but not my part. This doesn’t surprise me though because of the power company in this area. I don’t imagine it happening anytime soon. I would like to find a way to promote this in my area.
As a family we have changed all light bulbs in the house to the newer ones which I suppose are cutting back on some utilities. We also make sure the heat/airconditioner don’t run constantly while we are gone. When it is warm and we can have the windows open opposed to running the a/c we do that along with the use of floor fans.
Working on converting my Dodge Sprinter to run on vegetable oil or biodiesel. NC/SC is one of the few places where biodiesel is actually available, not just homemade.
The conversion cost of $2500 would be offset if I can run 12500 miles on waste vegetable oil. I drive about 30,000 a year!!! So this is a serious consideration!
I was very pleased to discover that my city offers the option of purchasing Green Power – I signed up tonight!
I checked for our area. Seems it is in ‘the works’ and is currently being used in the state parks and public official offices. Not much offered yet for us citizens, but I was advised to check into using different light bulbs for starters. For years we have turned down the thermostat, opened windows in place of running a.c., and turn on lights only if we need them. We also collect rainwater for our gardens.
I get 100% of my electricity from wind power. It’s one of the things we have plenty of here in Oklahoma…LOL
I checked for my area also and its not looking good. But i try to do little things like turn off lights when i’m not in the room.
signed up tonight! i switched all my old bulbs over to the awesome energy saving bulbs about 6 months ago and try to keep in the habit of turning lights off when not in use and unplugging appliances.
I’m switching over my old bulbs & turn off lights.
We have geothermal heating and cooling, and that saves us money and energy. We’ve also switched all of our lightbulbs to compact fluorescents. I researched our electric co-op and found that we can opt into a monthly contribution to support a local wind farm. While our own electricity won’t be supplied by the wind farm (yet), we will be supporting the development of renewable energy sources. We are also researching the feasibility for installing a wind turbine on our own property since we live in the country.
There are new wind turbines that were made that could solve a lot of electricity problems in big cities. You guys should check it out..
When my electric provider offered Wind Power option, I jumped in 100%. My home is 100% electric and I am thrilled to know that my power source is the wind. I have changed every light bulb to the “green” florescent and can now light my entire home with less power than one 100 watt incandescent bulb.
We are researching solar power and are trying to use as little energy as possible – turning off the air conditioner at night, hanging out clothes to dry, riding a motorcycle to work…
