Shut off pilot lights in the off-season
Gas-powered wall heaters use a small pilot light. Though necessary in winter, they burn continuously in warmer periods too, wasting gas and costing about $6 per month. Today, challenge yourself to call your local gas company and schedule a time to have your pilots turned off.

I recently removed my pilot water heaters. I replaced them with a tankless heater, therefore heats water on demand. I also turned off my pilot light lanterns outside my home. My gas bill this month is 26.56 from an average $70. This is the lowest yet. I think I will frame this statement. It was pleasantly shocking. I had to double check the name on the statement to make sure it was indeed my bill.
It is still getting pretty cold here at night but once it starts warming up more I’m deffinately going to turn off the pilot light on the heater. I’m not sure what the water heater is set at but I don’t think we can change it because we rent.
Always turn off heater in summer also turn down heat on water heater.
Iwill turn pilot off & turn water heater down
Has a auto pilot like most new furnaces. But I do turn the gas valve off to the furnace
I totally agree with this – I don’t have a wall heater, but I have had to turn off the pilot light in my water heater (due to a leak) and I’ve saved a ton of money on my gas bill.
I always keep my hot water heater at 120 degrees
We don’t have any pilot lights but we do turn down the water heater in the summer. As a matter of fact it gets so hot here we could probably turn it off! lol
I always turn the pilot light off on my furnace for summer months. I also check to make sure hot water heater is set to medium, saving money on hot water.
