Reset your thermostat
Did you know that you can save about 10% annually on heating and cooling costs by adjusting your thermostat 10-15° from the usual setting during 8 hours of the day? So, for example, if your heater is generally set at 68-70° in the winter, try setting it back to 58° during the day. Or better yet, turn it off when you’re out of the house. Today set your thermostat to an energy saving level.

I have switched to an electronic thermostat which helps monitor and regulate. It is set for 79 for 75% of the day and 78 for the other 25%. We have fans in all main level rooms, except the kitchen, and they stay on all day. The basement area stays about 10 degrees cooler, so if it gets to warm on the main level we go downstairs to the basement.
I only use my air conditioner at night so that I can get a good night’s rest. We aren’t at home during the day, so why run the a/c?
I’ve turned my heat off and it won’t go back on until around October!
I shut my heat off in April and try not to turn it back on till November. We only use the cooling system for maybe 1 month out of the year.
We live in an adobe house. Our heater has been off for almost a month, and we won’t have to turn on our coolers yet for another month. Yay!
