As someone who sells sneakers for a living, here are a couple of tips:
1) Use a running shoe even if you are walking – they are lighter and offer more support. Unless you are really big – 250+ you might want to look at a lightweight crosstrainer.
2) replace your sneakers every 4-6 months. Chances are if you are starting to get heel pain and your shoes are old, it’s time to replace them.
3) get some non-cotton wicking socks. They will pull the moisture away and support the foot. Again running socks are a great option.
4) Not everyone needs orthotics. But if you have them, match the same type of shoe to the orthotic you have. Sometimes if you get the right type of shoe and sock you may not need orthotics.
5) Make sure the shoe fits. Chances are if the shoes is tight and umcomfortable when you put it on, it will be later. The shoe should feel good when you put it on.
6) It’s okay to try on shoes when your feet are swollen or hurt. Unless you are not going to use then when your feet are swollen, try them on when they are. If you have foot pain, and the shoe does not aggrevate the condition then you are on the right path.
7) find a knowledgeable sales person. If you are not compfortable, then walk away. Ask if they work on comission. I hate to say this, but if they work on commssion, then they may just be trying to sell the shoe.
8) Find a good podiatrist if you need one/ Some are very orthotic and surgery happy. DO NOT assume that just because they say you need orthotics that you do. Check around and the credentials. A really good podiatrist will not push a certain brand of sneakers. They will guide you to what type of shoe you may need but not a specific brand. It’s kind of like reccommending Brand X drug for this when that specific drug may not be the best. There maybe other options. A good podiatrist will work with you and not insist that X treatment is the only way to go.
9) Try on lots of different brands: New Balance, Asics, Mizuno, Nike, Addidas. There are tons of brands out there. Look at the low end to the high end. Find what works for you. I myself am a Mizuno person. But I also have had great luck with Asics and Nike. Remember when trying different brands, stay in the same type of shoe: i.e. a shoe for an overpronator or supinator or neutral. If you are flatfooted (overpronator) don’t try a shoe for an underpronator (or supernator) they will feel very different. All shoes have some kind of cushioning. Certain companies like Asics will do gel cushioning, Nike will do Air, Addidas another, etc….. GO WITH WHAT’S COMFORTABLE! Hope this helps!

I’m a birkenstock girl. I also wear crocs.
i wear what i found to be the most comfortable shoes yet… Crocs. I have tried many different types of shoes and insoles to better the shoes and crocs without a oubt and any extra help are the best and do make me want to be on my feet.
After dealing with achilles tendonitis for several months, I’ve learned that nothing feels better than my Dansko clogs. And even though they’re pricey, they’re a lot less expensive than physical therapy and other medical interventions!
If I need something dressier, I go for the Strictly Comfort line of shoes at JCPenney. They’re cute, inexpensive and comfortable. And they come in wide widths. My chubby feet love them.
I wear my comfortable shoes to work everyday because I am constantly on my feet. Where I work, it is not required or recommended to wear dress shoes. I am more likely to move around more when I have my tennis shoes on. It is also important for me to have comfortable workout shoes. I recently bought a new pair of workout shoes because my old ones where worn out. When ever I put on the new workout shoes or see them in my closet, they give me energy to get up and move!
I wear my Nikes to work and to church and change out when I arrive; it makes the walk so much better and that way I can’t feel guilty for taking the bus because I’m wearing heels or have no support because I’m wearing flats.
Of course, comfort is the utmost importance for me today. Although, I remember the day when I would wear high heel pumps everywhere. This was because I was brainwashed by the media and I was ‘short’ so it made me feel taller and thinner to wear high heels. But, today, knowledge has won over the other ‘attitude’ and I have learned. All parents should teach their daughters how to avoid media confusion and do what is healthy and promotes their longevity. Today, as most days I wore my ‘Dr. Comfort’ brand shoes and walked to the post office and the library where I am now posting this. I will again walk to the store when completed here and walk back to my home. These shoes make walking faultless. God bless you all and keep active. Havana*

wore my tennies shoes all day. I don’t usually wear them unless I am working out at the gym. They are comfortable, just don’t wear them. so instead of taking others to change into I thought I would just wear them when I went shopping. And my feet or back didn’t ache when I got home.
I always wear comfy shoes and I try to get out fro a walk every day!
I saw this challenge before I left for work and opted for my red sneakers instead of the red dress shoes that gave me blisters the last time I wore them.
