Unplug your electronics
Even when they are not being used, electronics – like coffee makers, TVs, and stereos – consume some energy. Today or tomorrow before you leave the house, unplug any electronics that aren’t being used.

Have started doing this in the past year or so. I don’t keep the radar-range plugged as we use it so infrequently. I use it as a bread-box & catch all most of the time!
Tonight, our family unplugged 23 items from the wall…... from coffee maker, to 4 cell phone chargers, 3 computers, 2 printers, toaster, X-box, curling iron, 3 hair dryers, 2 tv’s, etc….
We have been in the practice of unplugging appliances and other items for a long time. It becomes part of the normal routine.
I have been doing this i feel like im helping reduce energy even if its only a small amount
Thank You Arianna, Thats good to know. It is much easier to turn off the power strips than to unplug everything. :)
I forgot to unplug my tv and vcr and my cable box and we had a bad storm. For the first time in our lives we had a power surge and lost all three electronics, UGH! Don’t forget to unplug, if not for any other reason than power surges..
Wouldn’t just turning off the powerstrip defeat the purpose? I thought the point was to unplug the appliances because they still drain energy if they are plugged in. Let me know, I want to try this and do it correctly. With the price of gas skyrocketing I need to save money where ever I can.
Chargers are the things most people just leave plugged in.. I should also remember to unplug easy things like lamps though. It’s a definite waste of energy, and it only take likes 2 seconds (if the outlet is easily accessible, of course).
Excellent idea.
I started unplugging my toaster and computer/printer, but like others I’ve found the tv/dvr to be harder to get to. I liked the idea about turning off the power strip. All of my home entertainment items are plugged into a power strip, so I’ll start turning that off when not in use.
I can’t believe I just heard of this tip a month ago. And to think. . .all these years. . . Since I live alone, doing this doesn’t irritate anyone. When my daughters visit (often) they just laugh & say “that’s Mom!”
I do this with my coffee pot and any lights in a room not being used. I only use my air conditioner when I am at home. Anything electric is turned off when I leave the house except the fish tank.
I do this with my phone charger everyday. SO much energy is wasted. TVs though are harder to get to. It will be more challenging…
I do this on a pretty regular basis. It made a difference on my electic bill.
I have been doing this lately and it has been challenging going after everyone to make sure the electronics, lights are out.
I haven’t convinced everyone at home, but I make it a habit before I leave my cube (work) each day and have been doing this since July of this year! I passed the info on last week to my office! Great goal!
I have already done this and have saved $35 on my electric bill. Use a timer on the tv and stereo for the times that you are not using them.
I am definitely doing this before I leave the house tomorrow.
